Is Your Manager Bottlenecking Your Company?

A lot of managers have the idea that in order to manage well, they have to know more about the ins-and-outs of their employees’ tasks than their employees do.

This is a false assumption and only serves to bottleneck company workflow.

Employees need trust and autonomy in order to do their best work. While managers need to check in to see the bigger picture, they don’t need to be hands-on for every step.

If you see this happening with your managers, it may be caused by two different issues:

  • Pride. The managers think they know more, therefore they want to see everything to approve it.
  • Fear. They’re concerned that the people above them are judging them based on the work their team does.

Address these issues and you’ll give both managers and employees the freedom to do their jobs successfully.
